KAS – Exam Pattern
Exam Name: KAS Officer (Junior Time Scale) Trainee Stream-1, Stream-2 & Stream-3.
Conducting Body: Kerala Public Service Commission
Pattern: Three stages
Stage 1: Preliminary- 200 Marks (screening)
Stage 2: Mains- 300 Marks (descriptive)
Stage 3: Interview- 50 Marks (personality test)
Preliminary Examination (200 Marks)
The preliminary examination will follow an objective pattern.
The Preliminary Examination will consist of two papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2 with each paper containing 100 questions. All questions will be objective in nature. Candidates will be required to choose any one of the 4 answer choices given for each question.
Moreover, both papers will be scheduled on the same day.
Candidates cracking the Preliminary will qualify for the Mains Paper.
Mains Examination (300 marks)
The Mains Examination which follows a descriptive method will have 3 papers, each of 100 marks.
Candidates who qualify each paper with the needed score will be enlisted for the interview.
Interview (50 marks)
The Interview (or Personality test) will be the third stage with a score of 50 marks. The objective of the interview is to assess the personal suitability and caliber of the candidate for a career in public service by a board of competent and unbiased observers.
The sub total marks obtained in Mains exam will be added with marks obtained in Interviews and based on this mark, final rank list is prepared.
Sub Total (Written test): 300 Marks
Personality Test: 50 Marks
Grand Total: 350 Marks
